Sustainability Tips for
A sustainably oriented event concept can actually represent a significant competitive advantage. More and more people honor or desire sustainable actions from your partners or from events you attend. Sustainable concepts can also pay off from an economic perspective. Here you will find practical tips for minimizing the ecological footprint of your events.
Tips & Recommen-dations
Organization
- Short ways – Take advantage of the short distances on the island! The Tourist Information Lindau supports you with a selection of hotels and restaurants that are within walking distance on the island.
- Programm – The supporting program for events can also be designed with sustainability in mind. Our colleagues at Bodensee Trips und Tours. support you in finding ideas and organizing your event.
- Act together – Why not also get the event participants on board? Under the motto “Acting together”, you can communicate sustainability goals for your event, tips on environmentally friendly travel and accommodation, tips on environmentally friendly behavior, waste separation and water conservation, etc.
Arrival & Mobility
- Event times –Â The start and end of an event can have an impact on the travel behavior of participants. Therefore, choose the event times in such a way that arrival and departure by public transport are possible.
- Bahn & public transport – Take advantage of the discounted train tickets for conference participants offered by Deutsche Bahn AG. This service does not incur any additional costs for you as the organizer. As a service, you can provide your participants with information and timetables for rail and public transport before the event.
- Driving together – On site, you and the participants do not necessarily need your own car. To minimize individual traffic, you can use shuttle services or form car pools. There are a variety of options for this in Lindau.
More about sustainable travel options to Lindau, transfers and mobility on site, can be found here.
Waste managment
- Reduce waste –Â Less is more! In general, try to reduce waste as much as possible or avoid it altogether, e.g. by minimizing one-off advertising material and printed matter and preferably using reusable products.
- Reuse – Develop take-back systems e.g. for name badges, badges etc.
- Recycling – The Inselhalle Lindau provides appropriate collection systems. For appropriate quantities, we can arrange an environmentally friendly collection for you.
- Packaging –Â Make sure you use ecologically beneficial packaging and oblige suppliers to take it back.
Catering
- Seasonal, regional, fair – For sustainable catering, it is recommended to ask more for seasonal, regional, fair trade and organically grown products. This selection supports local producers and reduces the event’s carbon footprint.
- No more than necessary – To effectively counteract food waste, it is important to communicate the number of participants in good time. This allows the catering service to precisely plan the required amount of food and beverages and avoid unnecessary surpluses.
Procurement
- Print – Be sure to use recycled paper for all printed materials and double-sided printing/copying.
- Commuication – Sometimes printed materials cannot be avoided. Nevertheless, check which forms and channels of digital communication are alternatively possible at your event; you may be surprised by completely new, exciting communication possibilities. Digital advertising options are available in the Inselhalle (digital poster pillars|Porte Inselhalle) and signage as well as online information.
Energy & transport
- Ways & save time – Use the extensive existing equipment of the Inselhalle – this saves transport routes and time. We are also happy to support you in your search for regional service providers.
Gifts & Give-aways
- With a good feeling –Â When choosing host gifts, make sure they are produced in an environmentally and socially responsible manner. This promotes sustainable production methods and social justice.
- Regional – In addition, it is advisable to choose regional and fair trade products or specialties whenever possible to support local producers and minimize the event’s carbon footprint.
- Long-lasting – Another important aspect is the reusability of the gifts, as this reduces waste and provides attendees with a long-lasting memory of the event.
Social
- Inclusive – Make sure that you allow all groups of people to attend the event in a pleasant and respectful manner.
